Whip it Real Good: the White America Version

Here at Famous For Bad Reasons, the Gemini wrote about Willow Smith here.

I have nothing to add on to that, except to show what’s already gone viral– Jimmy Fallon as Neil Young, plus Bruce Springsteen:

This is amazing.

Whenever I think of the Boss, I don’t think of people my parents age, nor do I think of the heart of rock and roll. See, I think of the Nouveau Hipster Generation, complete with box sets and the warmest desire to be as cool, stately and Libran as the Boss. I think of the young people who were raised on him, who want only to be approved by him, like how the entire riot grrrl movement wanted Sonic Youth’s approval. Bruce Springsteen reminds me of the people in my MFA program for poetry; we all want to be able to be good Americans who understand the average person and who can drink and rock and be rewarded by beauty in the world. That sort of thing.

But let this all be a reminder, no matter how much you rock, no matter how much you roll, there’s always room for pop, no matter how small.

(I’m writing children’s books next. I hear that’s a way to make money. I want to make money. I want to be able to go on television. I want the Boss to love me.)
